4. Indications for use

Diazinon-Pert 600 forms a stable emulsion with water, with ectoparasiticidal action, which is used for the prevention and treatment of scabies (Sarcoptes scabiei var. ovis, Chorioptes bovis), ectoparasitism with malophagous lice (Bovicola ovis), hematophagous lice (Melophagus ovinus) and flies (Lucilia sericata, Wolfarthia magnifica) in sheep. Simultaneously with the treatment of the animals, the treatment of their shelters and equipment is carried out.

Do not treat sick, weakened, exhausted or thirsty animals.

Do not use in lambs less than three weeks old.

Animals less than four weeks old may be treated only after a risk/benefit assessment by the veterinarian.

Use is not authorised in sheep producing milk for human consumption.

Do not use in cats, wild birds, domestic birds, fish and bees.

6. Special warnings

Special warnings:

Avoid contact of the product with skin and eyes. Avoid ingestion or inhalation of the product. The concentrate is extremely flammable. Toxic! Read the package leaflet carefully before use! Toxic to cats, birds, bees, fish and other freshwater and marine animals. Do not use the product on rainy days, as the effectiveness of the treatment will be reduced.

Special precautions for safe use in the target species:

Prevent sheep from drinking or sucking the bathing emulsion. Water the animals before bathing.

Special precautions to be taken by the person administering the veterinary medicinal product to animals:

Avoid contact with skin and eyes. Avoid ingestion or inhalation of the product. When handling the emulsion, it is necessary to wear impervious protective clothing, apron, helmet, face mask, rubber boots and rubber gloves.

When spraying, it is necessary to wear impervious protective clothing, gloves, helmet, rubber boots and respiratory protection with a combination filter.

Wash hands, face and hair after use. Soiled clothing should be removed and washed immediately. Materials used during administration of the product should be washed. In case of suspected poisoning or feeling unwell, the activity must be stopped and medical advice must be sought immediately.

Eating, drinking and smoking are prohibited while handling the veterinary medicinal product.

In case of accidental contact with the skin, wash immediately with soap and water. In case of accidental contact with the eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes and seek medical advice. In case of accidental ingestion, it is necessary to empty the stomach by inducing vomiting and seek medical advice immediately, showing the package leaflet or the label. The patient must be admitted and kept under observation for at least 12 hours, even in asymptomatic cases. The antidote is atropine; if severe symptoms of poisoning occur, hemoperfusion is used and a cholinesterase reactivator (Pralidoxime) is administered. Until signs of atropinization appear, several ampoules of atropine are administered. Atropinization should be continued until the increased bronchial secretion ceases. In case of tachycardia and mydriasis, increasing the dose of atropine is not contraindicated. Monitoring of cholinesterase activity in serum and erythrocytes is necessary. Due to the prolonged absorption of atropine, treatment can only be terminated gradually and only when cholinesterase activity values have reached at least half of the lower limit of normal. In case of intoxication, the administration of morphine, theophylline, aminophylline, phenothiazines, furosemide and muscle relaxants is contraindicated.

Pregnancy and lactation:

Use is not recommended during pregnancy. Do not use in sheep producing milk for human consumption.

Interaction with other veterinary medicinal products and other forms of interaction:

Do not administer concomitantly with other organophosphate and carbamate compounds. Microsomal enzyme inducers increase the toxicity of diazinon in the liver.

Overdose:

In case of overdose, organophosphorus ester poisoning may occur, with symptoms such as: salivation, sweating, tremors, hyperventilation, hyperesthesia, vomiting, mydriasis and unconsciousness.

Diazinon is a cholinesterase inhibitor and is very toxic! If treated animals show symptoms of poisoning, seek veterinary advice immediately.

Antidote: atropine; preparations with oxime: Toxogonin or Pralidoxime, which can only be administered by a veterinarian.

Major incompatibilities:

Decomposes in acidic or alkaline environments.

7. Adverse events
Organophosphate poisoning may occur. Symptoms: salivation, sweating, tremors, hyperventilation, hyperesthesia, vomiting, mydriasis and unconsciousness.

8. Dosage for each species, routes of administration and methods of administration

For external use only, by spraying or bathing.

For bathing sheep, an emulsion with an initial concentration of 600 mg diazonon / liter should be used; 1 liter of Diazinon-Pert 600 Emulsifiable Concentrate is diluted in 2400 liters of water. The bathing emulsion should be prepared just before use and diluted with tap water. During preparation, it should be stirred continuously to obtain a homogeneous mixture. The bathing emulsion should be supplemented in proportion to its use; if 10% has been consumed, the emulsion should be topped up with diazinon 750 mg/liter concentrated solution, which is prepared as follows: 1250 ml Diazinon-Pert 600 Emulsifiable Concentrate is diluted in 1000 liters of water. For spraying, 1 liter of Diazinon-Pert 600 Emulsifiable Concentrate is diluted in 1000 liters of water. The animal is sprayed on all parts of the body.

Simultaneously with the treatment of the animals, the pen and equipment are also sprayed or washed with Diazinon-Pert 600 Emulsifiable Concentrate; for this, 1 liter of Diazinon-Pert 600 Emulsifiable Concentrate is diluted in 25 liters of tap water. 5 liters of diluted emulsion are required to treat an area of 100 m2. Disinfection of the sheep pen, the sheep house, should be carried out by a qualified worker, spraying or washing being done in the empty house, without animals.

9. Recommendations for correct administration

Group treatment should be carried out in an open-air basin, in the morning, in dry weather. Animals kept together should be treated at the same time. The sheep should be completely immersed in the bathing emulsion for 30-60 seconds, for one second their heads are also immersed, taking care that the animals do not drink or suck up the bathing solution. Animals can be treated individually in a bathtub, outdoors or in a well-ventilated room. Bathing should be carried out on uncultivated land, which is not used for growing cereals.

The frequency of treatments depends on the degree of infestation, the stage of the life cycle of the ectoparasites and environmental conditions. Animals with scabies or suspected scabies should be treated twice, 7-10 days apart. The bathing emulsion should be used within 24 hours. Diazinon adheres to the skin, dissolves in the fat in the wool, thus providing longer protection against ectoparasites. It is recommended that sheep infested with scabies be treated within 4-6 weeks after shearing, as the wool layer of the animals is then sufficient to absorb 2-3 litres of bathing emulsion, the amount needed for a longer period of protection. In the case of myiasis, the effectiveness of the treatment increases if the adult insects are treated before the first larvae hatch.

10. Withdrawal periods

Meat and offal: 28 days

Use in sheep producing milk for human consumption is not authorised.

11. Special precautions for storage

It is prohibited to dispose of concentrate or emulsion residues in soil or water sources.

Bathing equipment should be rinsed thoroughly and stored safely in a specially designated area.

Diazinon in unused bath emulsion decomposes within 6-10 days, the ester bond cleavage being catalyzed by acidic or alkaline pH. Bath solution residues can be disposed of by composting them for 60 days; another method is to mix 5-10 kg of slaked lime into 1000 liters of bath emulsion. Slaked lime decomposes diazinon within 24-48 hours.
