Basic Information:
Name: Rabisin, suspension for injection for dogs, cats, mustelids, horses, cattle, and sheep. Composition:
Active ingredient: Rabies virus, strain G52 (Pasteur), inactivated ...... ≥ 2.09 log10 OD50* and ≥ 1 IU**
* when batch control was performed using an in vitro ELISA test (OD50: Optical Density 50%);
** when batch control was performed according to Ph. Eur. Monograph 451 (IU: International Unit)
Adjuvant: Aluminum (as hydroxide) 1.7 mg
Indications: For the active immunization of dogs, cats, mustelids, horses, cattle, and sheep against rabies. Vaccination prevents disease and mortality.
Onset of immunity:
- Dogs and horses: two weeks after completion of the primary vaccination series,
- Cattle: three weeks after completion of the primary vaccination series,
- Cats, mustelids, and sheep: one month after completion of the primary vaccination series.
Duration of immunity:
- For dogs and cats: one year after the primary vaccination series, then three years thereafter,
- For horses, cattle, sheep, and mustelids: at least one year.
Contraindications: Animals that are ill or infested with ecto- or endoparasites must not be vaccinated.
Side effects
Dogs/Cats/Mustelidae/Horses/Cattle/Sheep:
Occasionally
(1–10 animals per 1,000 treated animals):
Injection site reaction (nodules).1
Very rarely
(<1 animal per 10,000 treated animals, including isolated reports):
Anaphylactoid reaction.2
Hypersensitivity reaction.2
1 Usually 2–3 cm in diameter and lasting only a few days. If the nodules persist for more than 4 weeks in cats, surgical excision is recommended.
2 Symptomatic treatment should be administered accordingly.
Withdrawal period: Horse, cattle, sheep: Zero days.
