Indications for use, specifying the target species
Treatment of infections caused by microorganisms sensitive to oxytetracycline
- calves: infections of the respiratory tract (Mycoplasma spp.) and gastrointestinal system (E. coli)
- pigs: respiratory tract infections, gastrointestinal tract infections.
- poultry: respiratory infections (Mycoplasma spp., E.coli and CRD), gastrointestinal tract infections (fowl cholera caused by Pasteurella multocida)
- fish (trout and carp): infections caused by Aeromonas salmonicida (trout furunculosis, carp erythrodermatitis).
Contraindications
It should not be given to animals with known hypersensitivity to tetracyclines. It is not given to animals with impaired liver and kidney function.
Special warnings
It is not given to hens laying eggs.
Special precautions for use in animals
Due to the increasing development of resistance to tetracyclines, it is recommended to make an antibiogram for isolated microorganisms before using the drug. The most common are resistant bacteria from the genera Proteus, Pseudomonas, as well as some strains of E.coli, Salmonella spp., Enterococcus spp., Shigella spp., Enterobacter spp., And some strains of Mannheimia haemolytica.
Adverse reactions (frequency and seriousness)
Drug overdose or longer duration of therapy, and sometimes the use of recommended therapeutic doses can cause indigestion accompanied by diarrhea and vomiting, and in young animals, bone growth and tooth discoloration. Allergic reactions are also possible. In case of hypersensitivity reaction, use antihistamines and corticosteroids.
Use during pregnancy, lactation or lay
The use of tetracycline during the period of tooth development, including late pregnancy, can lead to tooth discoloration.
It is not used in laying hens.
Interaction with other medicinal products and other forms of interaction
Due to the known antagonism, the drug should not be used simultaneously with bactericidal antibiotics (β-lactam antibiotics, aminoglycosides, combination of sulfonamides with trimethoprim, polymyxins).
Amounts to be administered and administration route
Poultry: 50-100 mg oxytetracycline / kg b.w. (equivalent to 12.5-25 g of OTC VP 40% oral powder per 100 kg bw or 500 g of OTC VP 40% oral powder / 1000 L drinking water), for 5-7 days.
Calves: the recommended daily dose is 20 mg oxytetracycline / kg bw. or 5 g of oral powder OTC VP 40% per 100 kg bw, divided into two doses, for 5-7 days.
Pigs: The recommended daily dose is 20-30 mg of oxytetracycline / kg bw, or 5g - 7.5 g of OTC VP 40% oral powder per 100 kg bw, divided into two doses, for 5-7 days.
Fish: 20 g of oral powder (eq. 8 g of oxytetracycline) per 100 kg of fish, for 4 days. If necessary, continue the therapy for another 4 days if the death does not stop.
The medicine should be dissolved in a small amount of drinking water, and then mixed with the total predicted amount of water. Do not expose the drug solution prepared in this way to sunlight.
Prepare a fresh solution daily. Do not mix with milk or milk substitutes.
Fish: Mix the previously measured amount of medicine first in a small amount of the daily meal for fish, and then mix well with the rest of the food.
Due to the homogeneity of the mixture, it is important to mix in dry conditions. When mixing with pelleted food, a smaller amount of edible oil should be added to improve the adhesion of the drug to the pellet surface.
Special precautions for storage
Store at temperature of 25ºC, in original package.
